PBs a plenty as Millie and Kev shine through

There were several PBs tonight at the first Club Handicap of the new season.

Millie Devine came home first in the junior race with a new PB of 9.55 beating older brother Alex into second who also secured a new pb of 8.49. Toby Smith 13.25 and Brodie Homewood 19,05 both also ran completing the first of their 2 qualifying runs.

In the Senior event it was Dawnie Bridges who arrived home first in a new PB of 17.03 taking 56 seconds of her previous best (not bad for a newly turned 40 year old)!!!, however, as this was her second qualifying run the win on the night went to Kevin Peel who also secured a PB on the night of 13.44.  Kev finished just ahead of Sarah Smith (overtaken in the last 100 mtrs) who also finished with a new PB of 16.00 beating her best by just 4 seconds. Other notable runs on the night were had by Carry Murphy 15.38, Steve Joy-Good 13.07, Jo Slade 16.37, Jack Little 18.51 and Neil Burford 14.18 (Steve, Jo, Jack and Neil all PBs).

Anna and Millie win club handicap

On a cold crisp Sunday morning 21 senior members and 4 juniors completed the 2.2 mile (seniors) and 1.5 mile (juniors) club handicap races.

In a seniors race that saw 12 members running qualifying times, either due to being first timers or coming back from injury, it was Anna Totterdell who came home first and taking the glory.

Amongst the 12 qualifying runners it was good to see Richard Fenn back running again after injury, but I am sure that the biggest smile on both her face and other participants was seeing former treasurer Karen Freeman back running for the club again…

Over to the juniors race and it was 10 year old Millie Devine who came home in first place, although after their second qualifying runs i’m sure that Rhys and Rhianne Mcnair will be giving her a run for her money next time out.

Matt goes sub 3

Matt Lauch finally beat his demons in Seville at the weekend and ran a sub 3 marathon for the first time!!  The 3 hour mark had eluded Matt on a number of occasions but this time the training and focus paid off.

With a time of 2.56.34 Matt finally got the time that he wanted and some of the thanks go to Martin Stevens of Werrington Joggers who trained with Matt through the winter and then paced Matt to the sub 3 on the day.

Magnificent Mogridge Mauls March (frostbite)

James Mogridge blew away the field today at the 4th frostbite of the season over at March. Although James had come second before he had never won a frostbite race, although many of his club mates knew that it was going to be sooner rather than later….

Also having great races today were Simon Hearty (11th), Matt Lauch (19th) and Mike Morley (20th) meaning that we had 4 men in the top 20.  Rounding of the scoring men were Andy Todd (52nd), David Whitwell (94th) and Dean Longman (98th).

First home for the ladies just a day after her birthday (34 I believe), was Claire Piercy in 144th place, Claire was followed in by Sharron (I love mud) Toms (167th) and Anna (blogger extraordinaire) Totterdell (183rd).

On to the juniors and 15 took part today with Alex Devine coming home first for the club in 9th place, followed by Joe Wright (20th) and Ben Wright (27th).  Not to be outdone by her older brother, Millie Devine was the first Yaxley girl home in 58th place (12th girl) followed by Rhiannon Loutit in 76th place (18th girl).

A cracking day with fantastic results all throughout the field for both the seniors and the juniors leaving the seniors in 4th place on the day (7th overall) and the juniors in 6th place (7th overall)

Nene Valley 10 – Club Champs

You know that Christmas is just around the corner when it is time for the Nene Valley 10, and this year to add a bit of spice it was a club championship race.

On the day, (just 2 days after the annual christmas party) and still feeling worse for wear!!! 25 members completed the race. More were entered in the race but it seems that some of the members can’t quite handle their drink….

Anyway, onto the race, although not cold a fairly stiff wind was blowing meaning headwind for half of the race.  This however didn’t stop James Mogridge from coming 4th in a time of 55.53…. Next home for the gents was Matt Lauch followed just 40 seconds later by Mike Morley in a new pb.  After 6 races (Male runner of the bi-monthly for Oct/Nov) Mike Morley still leads the way, but the ominous figure of James is looming ever closer.

First home in the MV40 category was Dean Longman followed by Gary Masters and Tim Loutit meaning that Dean moved to the top of the MV40 championship standings ahead of Mark Evans who was otherwise engaged at the Malaga marathon.

In the MV50 and MV60 categories as there were no runners on the day Ross Cameron (MV50) and Neil Bason (MV60) still lead the way, however, with 4 races still to go thre are still some trophies in these categories that are up for grabs.

Onto the ladies and (runner of the bi monthly for Oct/Nov) Claire Piercy continued her amazing form coming home as first Yaxley lady in a time of 73.04 followed by Roslyn Loutit and Sharron Toms. The win means that Claire extends her lead over rivals Roslyn and Sharron.

Age categories next and Anna Totterdell closed the gap again on Sarah Smith  (Female Seniors category) who carried on even though she damaged her foot at 8 miles (get better soon Sarah). Anna Devine moved into 3rd place with a pb as Kirstin Homewood was otherwise engaged (though rumours of Sambuca were mentioned!!)

In the FV40 category Claire extended her lead over Sharron Toms with the race for 3rd place still wide open with just 5 points covering 3rd to 5th place (Lesley, Nina and Sharon Leslie)…

Roslyn closed the gap on Barbara Johnson at the top of the FV50 age category with 3rd place also still up for grabs. (just 6 points seperating Carol Riley, Lesley Harwood and Jean Maggs) who all ran on Sunday morning.

There were also notable runs for 1st timers Emily Hawke, Jean Maggs and Club Secretary Steve Joy-Good who slowly made his way through the field to miss a pb by just 8 seconds.

The next race in the club champs is just 4 weeks away and is at the County Cross Country Championsips at St Neots (speak to Hugh soon if interested)

Adrian Jarvis

It is regret that I announce the sad news of the passing of Adrian Jarvis on Tuesday. Adrian was a past Chairman of Riverside Runners and, until this summer, the Frostbite Friendly League, when he stepped down due to ill health.

Our thoughts are with Adrian’s wife and family at this very sad time, as well as his friends at Riverside Runners and on behalf of Yaxley Runners, I send our condolences.

Gavin Farrow
Club Chairman

Christmas is coming…

… and so too is the Yaxley Runners Christmas Party!

This year it will be on Friday 4 December at Bollywood Tiger in Yaxley. There will be a Indian buffet to include a selection of starters, main courses, vegetable dishes, breads and rice dishes. A disco will follow (if we want to bring our own dancing music on a memory stick the DJ will play exactly what we want).

The price will be £15 per head. To book your place, please pay your money to a committee member as soon as possible.

Everyone is welcome, including partners. It would be good to get a good turnout… the more the merrier! Oh, and there will be some wine on the table courtesy of the Club!
